Thinking Circle

Welcome

One can speak or act not just in the countless unsatisfying ways always available.

– Eugene Gendlin, founder of Focusing

Focusing Pathways
is founded by Francesca Castaldi, Ph.D. and is dedicated to the teaching of Focusing through a variety of workshops,
tutorials, and private sessions.

On this website you will also find useful resources such as articles and recommended books, as well as learn how to connect to an international Focusing Community so that you will be able to continue Focusing on your own.

FOCUSING WILL HELP YOU IF:

You are sensing a vague dissatisfaction with your life or relationships

You are undergoing a crisis (in your job, health, or relationships)

You are in a transitional space (recovering from divorce, an illness or a death, changing career or place of residence, or needing to build a new social network)

You are in a phase of freedom, creativity, and exploration

WHAT FOCUSING OFFERS:

Often in our busy world we need to be forcefully convincing and loud to get noticed.  We may bring this attitude to our inner world and our relationship with ourselves, only noticing what is LOUD and repetitive.  For example we may not notice that we are upset until we are screaming at our children or co-workers.  We may not notice that we are tired until we crash, repeating the same pattern over and over.

Many of us find ourselves coming to the end of our day, exhausted, rushed, going from task to task while a small voice inside may be wondering: “What about me?”

Focusing allows us to pause and ask: “How am I doing?”  When we are willing to hear the whole story, beyond a formal “Good” or “I am fine,” we may be surprised by the relief that comes with such simple attentiveness to our wellbeing.

Focusing is a practice of simplicity that allows us to honor our complexity.  It is a process of inner listening that helps us be sensitive to the intricacy of our being in relation to people and situations.

Focusing helps us pay attention to what is small and subtle.  It helps us spend time with what may be fuzzy and unclear, valuing what is not yet fully formed.  We find that this way of listening to ourselves nurtures our inner resources, helping us gently undo unhealthy patterns and bringing a renewed creativity and vitality to our lives and relationships.  Learn more

FOCUSING TRAINING:

The goal of Focusing Training is to enable you to practice Focusing independently, in egalitarian and free partnerships, for the rest of your life.  You can learn Focusing through workshops or tutorials, in a supportive environment.

SOLID RESEARCH:

Focusing is a process based on serious psychological research and philosophical wisdom. It was originally developed by Eugene Gendlin, professor of psychology and philosophy at the University of Chicago.
